Shiviti
Paper cut-outs in different colors on a metallic paper background.
The cut-outs form a decoration of biblical verses, menorah, architectural frames in the form of mihrab and floral friezes.
Morocco, 20th century.
A text that includes a verse from the Psalms (16,8) is called shiviti. The translation is as follows: I fix my eyes constantly on the Lord.
This shiviti is usually displayed at the front of a synagogue or in front of the lectern of the officiant. In this case, in addition to this verse, there are numerous blessings, names of angels, kabbalistic sefirot, etc.
This shiviti is exceptional for its graphics, the quality of its cuts and its size.
