A GREEN GLASS FATIMID WEIGHT OR INLAY, POSSIBILY DEPICITNG SAGGITARIUS
Ca. 12th - 13th century AD. A green glass intaglio seal of rounded oval form, carved with a depiction of a centaur-like archer drawing a bow, possibly representing Sagittarius. The figure is shown in motion with limbs extended across the composition. The surface retains areas of earthen encrustation contrasting with the polished glass. The carving features bold lines and curvilinear details typical of Fatimid-period work.Size: 50mm x 40mm; Weight: 25gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
