A Silver Spice Container, Mexico City, Circa 1950
This beautifully crafted sterling silver spice box is a whimsical interpretation of an antique spice box from Eastern Europe. Set upon four elongated legs in the form of deer hooves, a cylindrical shaped container features bold block Hebrew engraved wording that states "Creator of different spices". A pennant flag finial is placed atop this container, and the base of the flag features leafy tendrils. Underneath are hallmarks "MC" which stand for Mexico City. Mexico was a large producer of high quality silver Jewish ceremonial objects from the late 1940's through the 1950's.
