Rabbi Refael Silberman (1839-1918), born in Uman and settled in Tzefas succeeding his father Rabbi Mordechai as Dayan and in 1872 as Rabbi of the Ashkenazim of the town. Respected by both Jews and Arabs. Rabbi of Uman, settled in Eretz Yisrael in 1850 and joined the Beth Din of Rabbi Shmuel Heller in Tzefas, and the Beth Din in Teverya. Ancestor of the Silberman – Kaplan rabbinical family of Tzefas.
המחבר רבי עקיבא יוסף שלזינגר (תקצ"ה-תרפ"ב) בעל "לב העברי". נולד בפרשבורג ונימול ע"י ה"חתם סופר". תלמידם של גדולי רבני הונגריה וגדול הקנאים הלוחמים ברפורמה ובהשכלה. בשנת תר"ל עלה לירושלים, בה המשיך את מאבקו באפיקורסים וב"מחדשים". פעל לטובת התיישבות יהודית ברחבי הארץ, ואף נקלע למחלוקת חריפה ולחיכוכים עם אנשי היישוב הישן כשיצא נגד שיטת ה"חלוקה", ובפרשיות ופולמוסים אחרים. על שמו נקרא שם היישוב "בני עי"ש".
