Bakst was a Russian painter, set designer, illustrator and costume designer between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the twentieth century. Born to a Jewish family inGrodno, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Petersburg and at the Académie Julian in Paris where he approached the symbolism born with Jean Moréas in 1886 with the manifesto “Le Figaro”. He worked as a set and costume designer for the Ballets Russes and had a strong influence on French and American fashion in the early twentieth century. & Nbsp;
