A HARDSTONES INLAID GILT BRONZE SCULPTURE WITH VAJRADHARA BUDDHA
Tibet, 19th century
The deity depicted sitting on a double lotus flower base with the legs crossed in the padmasana position, the arms at chest with the hands in the vajramudra, on each arm a lotus flower stem, the one on the right with a vajra, the one on the left with a ghanta, the figure richly jeweled with garnet and turquoise inlays, on the front of the upper side of the base a Tibetan incised inscription, the gold on the face applied cold, the hair with traces of blue pigment.
21 cm high
Provenance: Italian private collection.
The presence of the vajra scepter, emblem of the masculine principle, and of the ghanta bell, symbol of the feminine principle, allows to identify this figure in Vajradhara, the primordial Buddha.
