Giocondo Albertolli (1742–1839) - Large Aquatint - Eagle with outstretched wings resting on an oak leaf cluster
Large antique engraving originates from Giocondo Albertolli, Giacomo Mercoli and Giuseppe Piermarini’s "Ornamenti diversi, inventati, disegnati ed eseguiti da Giocondo Albertolli, professore d'ornati nella reale Accademia delle belle arti in Milano incisi da Giacomo Mercoli Luganese". The work was published in Milan, 1778-82.Giocondo Albertolli (1742-1839) was an Italian architect, painter, and decorator, known for his significant contributions to neoclassical architecture and interior design. Born in Como, Italy, he initially studied architecture and went on to work as a professor of architecture and design in Milan. Albertolli's work reflected the neoclassical style that was prominent during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with an emphasis on simplicity, symmetry, and the revival of classical elements from ancient Greek and Roman architecture. He is best remembered for his architectural designs and his detailed frescoes, which adorned various public and private buildings in northern Italy.Artist or Maker: Giocondo Albertolli Dimensions:62 cm x 48 cm Medium: Aquatint with EtchingDate: 1778-82Condition Report:This work is in good condition overall.
