AN ENGRAVED PERSIAN BAZUBAND WITH SILVER DAMASCENE, 18TH/19TH CEN.
A high-quality Persian bazuband decorated with exquisite engraving and silver damascene. The center of the piece shows a silver damascene fish spewing forth water. It is surrounded by floral engraving with many zoomorphic figures throughout. All of this is framed by inscriptions that line the edge of the piece. There is still red fabric on the inside of the band as well as on a section of chainmail that is attached to the wrist. The wrist of the band retains much of its chainmail as well as its silver damascened rectangular steel plates and a thin leather strap.
Persia, 18th or 19th century.
L: 14 in. (35.56 cm.);
Condition: Engraving is clear and damascene is mostly present with only minor spots of rust. Most pieces are still attached and in good condition.
