A GILT-HAMMERED COPPER INDIAN DHAL SHIELD, 19TH CENTURY
Comprised entirely of brass, the outer surface is decoratively embossed with a crowned sun-in-splendor centered between four crescents, each enclosing a tiger attacking a chital. There are four lion-head bosses in total, each set between two of the crescents. All of this on a ground of symmetrical scrolling flowering foliage against a finely punched background, and with four rings for grips on the verso.
India - 19th century.
D: 17 3/4 in., (45.08 cm.)
Condition: Very good. Only minor oxidization in some places.
