A RUSSIAN ORDER OF ST. ANNA 2ND CLASS IN GOLD, CA. 1900

An Order of Saint Anne Military Division in gold, by Albert Keibel. The order is made of gold with four red enameled arms and four swords. This order is made with 4 handle parts of swords as opposed to 2 handles and 2 blades. This item was put together incorrectly by the jeweler who manufactured it and is an interesting example of a manufacturing error.

Hallmark: 56 gold proof on the loop. Cyrillic letters 'BA' on the bottom arm of the cross, underneath red enamel, as well as Eduard.

Russia, ca. 1900.

Footnote: The Imperial Order of Saint Anna was a Holstein ducal and then Russian imperial order of chivalry. It was established by Karl Friedrich, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, on 14 February 1735, in honor of his wife Anna Petrovna, daughter of Peter the Great of Russia.
