A FINE GOLD-DAMASCENED INDO-PERSIAN KHANJAR DAGGER, 19TH CEN.

An Indo-Persian Khanjar dagger decorated with brilliant gold and silver koftgari-work to the hilt and the forte. The hilt has depictions of tigers, elephants, and antelopes bounded by borders in geometric and foliate patterns, and the pommel is in the shape of a dove's head complete with a delicate protruding beak. The koftgari of the forte of the blade is similarly decorated to the hilt, with a tiger on one side and a floral motif on the other, both set within geometric borders. The blade itself is nicely curved and has a decoratively sculpted portion of its spine.

Indo-Persia, 19th century.
