etching and aquatint in colours enhanced with fine gold on Arches paper.
signed in pencil ‘Dali’ (lower right) and numbered ‘175/250’ (lower left)
57 x 38 cm
Framed. Certificate of authenticity.

The illustration is from a superbly drawn series inspired by the Song of Songs, also known as the Song of Solomon. It takes the form of a series of poems, alternating love songs describing the love relationship and marriage between a woman (the Shulamite) and a man. They express all the sensations of love: expectation, desire but also the grief of separation.

The engraving presented here is the illustration n°10 of the Song of Songs Chapter 2 Verse 16: “My beloved is mine and I am his; he feedeth among the lilies.”
