CARPEAUX JEAN-BAPTISTE: (1827-1875) French Sculptor and Painter. A.L.S., `J.B. Carpeaux´, one page, 8vo, Auteuil, 26th July 1872, in French. Carpeaux writes to his correspondent and client, a woman he could not meet the day before, and refers to the work he has been entrusted, stating `J´ai été hier a Versailles pour vous voir. J´ai eu le regret de ne pas vous rencontrer. Je vous prie chère Madame de vouloir bien m´indiquer un jour pour causer du travail que vous m´avez confié…´ (“I went yesterday to Versailles to see you. I was sorry not to meet you. I beg of you, dear Madame, to kindly tell me a day to talk about the work you have entrusted to me…”) With blank integral leaf. VG
