Giovanni Barrella (Milan, November 30, 1884 - Erba, September 23, 1967) was an Italian actor, playwright, poet, theater director, and painter, considered a point of reference for twentieth-century Milanese literature.

The son of an infantry major from Salerno, after attending the Academy of Fine Arts he made his debut as a theater actor with Carlo Rota and Edoardo Ferravilla in dialect comedies, then moved to the Teatro Argentina in Rome where he acted in Italian. He then moved on to variety theater with Alberto Colantuoni and Luigi Zoncada. In 1927 he formed a new theater group, distinguishing himself in the famous "El nost Milan" by Carlo Bertolazzi.

In 1931 he acted alongside Paolo Bonecchi, a famous dialect actor of the time. He made his film debut in the silent era in 1912, then in 1934 he moved to sound where he remained active as a character actor until 1951, acting in films directed by Brignone, Mattoli and Monicelli, among others.

A top-level actor and writer, who worked with the top names in Italian theater and cinema.
