THREE OHIO CAT DOORSTOPS
Includes two by Peters and Reed, Muskingum County, early 20th century; one is in the mirror black finish and the other is in a mottled olive-mustard glaze, 9.75" high; together with a reclining sewertile cat, 12" long. James Murphy references Peters and Reed in his article on the nearby Logan Pottery ("Art Pottery Archaeology: The Enduring Enigma of Peters and Reed" in The Journal of the American Art Pottery Association, v.16, n. 6, p.8-14, 2000.) suggesting that based on sherds found at the Logan Pottery site, some of the Peters and Reeds molds were used there, as was the mirror black glaze, though it is not known if Logan produced the cats or they were exclusively the product of Peters and Reed. Provenance: private collection. PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE LIVE AUCTIONEERS LIVE SHIPPING. WE STILL OFFER AFFORDABLE IN-HOUSE SHIPPING ON MOST ITEMS IN OUR AUCTION. YOU CAN EMAIL OR MESSAGE US FOR AN ESTIMATE. BUYERS WHO WANT TO USE OUR IN-HOUSE SHIPPING SHOULD, AT CHECKOUT, SELECT BIDDER ARRANGED SHIPPING. PLEASE SEE OUR FULL TERMS FOR DETAILS. PLEASE CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS.
Condition: The P&R cats both have ear chips; the olive-mustard cat has a hairline in the base and is missing one glass eye; the sewertile cat is missing its right forepaw.
