1960s Burgermeister "On Tap" 2-Sided Lighted Sign
Item SKU: C-12263
1963 vintage double-sided plastic beer sign in new-old stock (NOS) condition, wrapped with original plastic wrapping, made for the Burgermeister Division of Joseph Schlitz Brewing Co. of San Francisco/Los Angeles, CA.
This piece advertises Burgermeister, a German-style pale lager, or " Helles" brewed by Schlitz (after 1962). Named for the German term for the chief magistrate of a city, this beer is no longer in production. The sign features double-sided graphics with one side showing the branding and the reverse reading "On Tap"; the sign is set in a gold-tone frame with a suspended icon.
The brewery was originally founded by August Krug in 1849 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1856, Krug died, and in 1858 the company was passed to the bookkeeper of the bruwery named Joseph Schlitz when when Schlitz married Krug's widow.
Exhibits minor signs of wear including some rust spots, scratches/scuffs, and stains. The light has been tested and functions properly.
