European Swept Hilt Rapier, 17th c.
European swept hilt rapier, 17th century. Straight double-edged blade with a thin fuller the length of the blade. Marked to the upper section of the blade with a hallmark to one side partially obscured. Blade sharpened to the end of the fuller. Swept-hilt guard with two forward rings of turned steel. Straight quillion. Single bar over the grip turned at the end away from thew pommel. Pommel a large carved pear shaped flower hand peened. Grip with later wide. Hand peened over with the guard and pommel having clears signs of previously been gilt. Size 38" L, blade 31" L
