In these earlier works, one can see Massholder’s fascination with strong, graphic lines, bold colours and sensuous forms. Colour is crucial in his works, and in Intimate Prayers the pop of red nail polish on the figure’s hands are a small but standout detail that makes the anonymous figure feel more like a real individual, heightening the sense of intimacy in the work.
