HARUKI MURAKAMI (B. 1949)
AUTOGRAPH Kafka on the shore; translated from the Japanese by Philip Gabriel.
London: The Harvill Press, 2005. - [6], 505 с.; Signed by the author to tipped-in bookplate.
Limited edition, numbered 93 of 100 copies available. 23,5х16 cm.
Full white original leather, spine lettered in black, and pictorial black and white wave end papers. With black and white end bands and black ribbon page marker. Housed in a black slip case comprised of publisher’s boards. Tiny speck to lower board, and extremely light creasing / rubbing to spine ends. The odd water droplet mark to case. Otherwise both case and book fine (almost pristine). Very scarce in this condition and format.
Murakami writes that Kafka on the Shore «contains several riddles, but there aren’t any solutions provided. Instead, several of these riddles combine, and through their interaction the possibility of a solution takes shape. And the form this solution takes will be different for each reader. To put it another way, the riddles function as part of the solution. It’s hard to explain, but that’s the kind of novel I set out to write». This fabulous novel received the World Fantasy Award for 2006.
