SILVER snuffbox.
By KOMARNITSY, Moscow, circa 1850.
Of cylindrical form, decorated on one side with a vermeil coin bearing the effigy of Emperor Paul I signed by Carl Alexander Leberecht (1749-1827), a commemorative souvenir of the Emperor's undated coronation [1796], on the reverse of which appears the cross of the Order of St. George, in a nielloed frame. On the back of this snuffbox is a view of Falconet's sculpture of Peter the Great on horseback standing in St. Petersburg in niello silver. Gold interior. Slight wear from time, small lacks, but good general condition.
Title hallmark: 56, Moscow, circa 1850.
Goldsmith's hallmarks: G. K. (probably G. Komarnitsky), active from the 18th to the 19th century.
