TORAH COAT Dauendorf, Alsace, second half of the 19th century
Richly embroidered with gold thread, decorated with lions and a crown, as well as vine leaves (velvet worn in places)
Given by Schraga, son of Solomon, and his wife Greinel, daughter of Benjamin, from the holy community of Dauendorf.

The establishment of the Jewish community in Dauendorf dates back to 1650. In 1689, six families were registered, and the number peaked in the second half of the 19th century with about 120 persons. The community declined towards the end of the 19th century due to emigration following the annexation of Alsace by the Reich in 1870. In 1934, there were only seven families left, who left Dauendorf before the Second World War.
