Inscription in Hebrew : " made from holy coins "
Called " Goblet of Shmirot ".
H_6 cm D_5,5 cm - Weight : 65 gr.
In Eastern Europe, Hassidic masters gave a silver coin to each faithful coming to visit them in order to bring them protection.
The custom was for these faithful to collect these coins until they possessed a sufficient quantity to make a kiddush cup with the silver metal they contained, and to engrave on it the inscription: "made with coins of holy protection". According to tradition, the sanctity acquired by this process endures and protects whoever uses it to bless the wine on Shabbat and the holidays.
