The book, written by the people’s Commissar Lev Trotsky in the carriage of
his armored train and first published during the Civil war, was a response to
the eponymous work of Karl Kautsky (1919). In his work, Trotsky justifies
the red terror and absence of parliamentarism in the RSFSR: his arguments
later were repeatedly used to justify political repression.
The only work of Trotsky, approved by Joseph Stalin.
