Roman school of the 16th century. Attributed to Giulio Clovio (Kingdom of Croatia, 1498-Rome, 1578). Reliquary with a silver and gilt silver frame representing the Holy Family with Saint John on the obverse and Salvator Mundi on the reverse, finely painted in tempera on parchment. 15 x 15 cm. Giorgio Giulio Clovio was an illuminator and miniaturist who was active mainly in Renaissance Italy. He is considered the greatest illuminator of the Italian High Renaissance and possibly the last very notable artist in the long tradition of the illuminated manuscript.
