17th Century – Yafeh Toar – Prague, 1689 Signature of Rabbi Shmuel Zammer, Av Beis Din of Papa / Stamp of Rabbi Yaakov Segal Labuvitch- the Rav of Kapish

Medrash Raba on Sefer Bereishis with the complete "Yefeh Toar" commentary, by the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Yaffe Ashkenazi.

On the first title page is signature of Rabbi Shmuel Zammer, Av Beis Din of Papa (1808–1859) Disciple of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Charif and replacement of the Sha'arei Torah as Rav of Vrbové, at end of life in Papa. He sent letters back and forth with the Chasam Sofer and the Kesav Sofer (Ishim B’Teshuvot Chatam Sofer, #431). Eulogies of him are found in sefer Meteh Naftoli (Pressburg, 1863, Derush 26), and in sefer Likutei Chever ben Chaim (Pressburg, 1878, vol. I).

On second title page are 2 stamps of Rabbi Yaakov Segal Leibovitz - the Rav of Kapish, son-in-law of the Gaon of Makova, Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Doitsh. He was the Av Beis Din of Kapish (Hungary).
After the Holocaust he was the head of the Orthodox Beis Din in Budapest, which mainly dealt with releasing Agunos (Married women whose husbands perished in the Holocaust, who want to remarry based on some sort of proof of their husbands passing). As he writes in the introduction to his sefer Mishnas Yaakov Responsa: "I was the Rosh Av Beis Din of 'Takanas Agunos' in Hungary from year 5705 until the end of year 5710, and with the help of Heaven there were Heterim of "Iguna D'iteta" and "Igun Habaal", about five thousand, without any mishap, even among one of them".
Lived in the United States during the last (roughly) twenty years of his life, in which he was known as one of the great Poskim. He was one of the heads of "Hisachdus Harabbonim" in the U.S.

Prague, 1689.
