CYPRIOT LIMESTONE VOTIVE STATUETTE OF A COW
Ca. 600 - 300 BC. A limestone votive cow, standing on four legs with a smooth underside. The head is simply detailed, with small, pointed ears, deep-set eyes, and a slightly outlined snout with an open mouth. Incised lines are present on the dewlap. The animal is mounted on a modern wooden stand. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession Number: 74.51.2663; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Accession Number 72.305. Joseph Klein Collection, formed in New York between 1941 and 1980. Thence by descent. Base and collection numbers suggest, it may have been deaccessioned from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
