Interior view of the Henri II room in the villa of the Parc des Princes in Boulogne.
Watercolour on paper signed lower right and dated 1867, preserved under glass in its modern natural wood frame. Traces of humidity on the marie-louise, but good general condition.

History : Princess Zénaïde Ivanovna Narychkine (1809-1893) was the second wife of Prince Boris NicolaïÉvitch Youssoupoff (1794-1849). After his death, around 1850, she left for abroad and settled in Boulogne near Paris, in a private mansion she had built at the place called "Le Parc des Princes". Legendarily beautiful, she received the "Tout-Paris" of the Second Empire in this place. It was during a ball at Princess Mathilde Bonaparte's house that she met her future husband, the young Count Charles de Chauveau (1829-1889). It was in this villa that the princess died on 16 October 1893. Neglected for several years, it became the residence of exile from 1906 to 1912 of Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovitch and his second wife, Princess Nathalie Paley. After the Russian Revolution, Princess Paley sold the mansion to an institution for young girls, the Cours Dupanloup. After major transformations, the residence of Princess Youssoupoff is still visible today and is located at 4 avenue Robert-Schuman in Boulogne-sur-Seine.
